Greeley gets Honorable Mention for Bike Friendly Status
The City of Greeley has received an Honorable Mention from the League of American Bicyclists for Bike Friendly Status. The Honorable Mention means that Greeley has achieved a level of bicycle friendliness that exceeds most cities but also that it needs to improve in some aspects in order to achieve at least a bronze level. Cities are rated on engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation and planning of their bicycle systems. The levels of awards are bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The Greeley Trails and Open Space Foundation partnered with Public Works and the Citizens Transportation Advisory Board Bicycle Working Group to complete the application. A complete audit of Greeley 's bicycle system was performed and submitted to the League of American Bicyclists. The city currently has over 50 miles of on-street bike lanes, over 20 miles of recreational trails and over 30 miles of multi-use sidewalks. Bicycle friendliness is a priority to the Greeley Trails and Open Space Foundation and the CTAB Bicycle Working Group. They are committed to working with the city for improving the bicycle system and for making biking safe and convenient in Greeley . Contact Jeff Nosal at jeff@gtofoundation.org for more information.
