Trailhead: River Bluffs Open Space
Description: Larimer County recently extended the Poudre River Trail by an additional mile. This Western terminus of the trail has a large 
shady parking lot with picnic tables. It also has a restroom with running water and a drinking fountain.
To access the Poudre River Trail head west from the parking lot. You will come to a bridge that crosses the Poudre River. Just past the bridge the trail splits. The trail to the right takes you to the intersection of County Road 3 and County Road 32E. The trail to the left takes you down the Poudre River Trail. After a couple of bends you will travel along the base of ancient river bluffs and eventually the Highway 392 underpass. This section of the trail is essentially level.
The long range plan for the trail is to have it continue north and west from the River Bluffs Trailhead and follow the Poudre River to the trail system in Fort Collins.
Features: Restroom (closed in winter), Parking, Picnic Tables, Drinking Fountain, Bike Pump and Informational Signs.
Geology: Ancient river bluffs rise above to the West of this section of the trail. The trail itself is on the flat area of the Poudre River flood plain.
History: This flat section of the river valley is still used for growing hay.
